David T. Thibodeau
Managing Director

David T. Thibodeau is Managing Director of Wellvest Capital. David is a seasoned corporate finance executive within the wellness industry with a successful history of entrepreneurship, corporate strategy, mergers & acquisitions and equity raising. He was an early player in the consumer health and wellness sector where he has developed a particular expertise over the last 25+ years. Prior to Wellvest Capital, David spent 10 years at the investment bank Canaccord Genuity (formerly Adams, Harkness and Hill). As the head of the Health, Wellness and Lifestyle corporate finance group he focused on mergers, acquisitions, public and private financings. David led the evolution of the firm's Healthy Living practice into the broader and more robust Health, Wellness and Lifestyle sector. Over that time David was an advisor on many of the industry’s leading and transformative M&A transactions that have defined the evolution of the emerging wellness industry. Examples of these transactions include:

  • ZonePerfect Nutrition and EAS sale to Abbott Laboratories
  • Metagenics joint venture with Alticor
  • Martek Bioscience’s purchase of Amerifit Nutrition
  • Garden of Life’s sale to Atrium Innovations
  • SunPure’s sale to Kerry Group PLC
  • Pure World’s sale to Naturex SA
  • Imagine Foods sale to Hain Celestial Group

David began his career in 1980 in commercial lending at Comerica Bank, Detroit, MI. In 1983, he left the commercial banking business to pursue several entrepreneurial activities and over the next several years co-founded two companies that were instrumental in developing his financial management, multi-channel marketing, manufacturing process and distribution skills. The first was a rustic furniture manufacturer which originated as a mail order business and evolved into a multi-channel marketer of unique Adirondack style furniture. The second was a specialty/natural food company that manufactured and marketed natural peanut butter and unique chocolate/peanut butter products through a retail outlet, by mail-order, and wholesale distribution through the specialty, natural and conventional classes of trade. This early exposure to the natural products industry was instrumental in developing David’s early understanding of and passion for the wellness industry as it exists today.

After selling the last of these companies in 1990, he joined the founder of Yoplait Yogurt USA to start Boston Bay Management, a corporate development firm focusing on strategic and operational expansion of domestic and international companies in the natural and specialty food business. Clients included KEA Dairy and AKVA Spring Water, both based in Akureyri, Iceland; Sigma Alimentos in Monterrery, Mexico; Kettle Cuisine, Vermont Butter and Cheese and ZonePerfect Nutrition.

Upon his partner's retirement, David joined Wellfleet Capital Partners, a small boutique merchant bank providing merger and acquisition and private-placement advisory services to small and mid-sized companies, primarily in the healthy living sector. He was recruited to join Canaccord Genuity in 2000.

David earned an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Babson College, Wellesley, MA, graduating with honors. Over the years he has been an active volunteer and is currently a member of the Board of Overseers for the Boys and Girls Club of Boston. David is an avid downhill and cross country skier, enjoys golf and tennis, is an active outdoorsman, and has been a private pilot since he was 18 years old. David and his wife of 20 years, Charlotte, live in historic Beacon Hill, Boston and very much enjoy the special relationships they have developed with their 24 nieces and nephews.

Dr. Adel Laoui is a Strategic Advisor at Wellvest Capital. He is an International Senior Executive that has more than 20 years of experience in research and development, interfacing between Life sciences and Technologies, across the US, Europe and Asia. Adel’s expertise resides in Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare Solutions and Data Analytics that focus on delivering holistic care with the goal of enabling a more sustainable and cost effective quality of life for the patients and caregivers.

Adel spent 15 years in different global leadership roles supporting the R&D process from the target validation, to the lead and candidate identification and optimization. Adel was one of the key innovators of a major natural product anti-cancer drug Taxotere identified in France at the Institute of Natural Products and licensed to Rhone Poulenc Rorer (now Sanofi) that generated more than $5billion/year for the past 10 years. This is certainly one of the most gratifying contributions of his career not only due to the bottom line results but also to the experience gained in working within a high performance R&D team focused on innovation, development and commercialization of a breakthrough product that saved many human lives. Adel also contributed to several clinical candidate nominations across key therapeutic areas such as Oncology, Diabetes, Central Nervous System, Inflammation, Anti-Infective and Rare Diseases.

In 2001 Adel moved from Europe to the United States of America to build and lead the Informatics group. His initial focus was on developing innovative technologies to catalyze evidence-based medicine. He developed an Informatics platform integrating data from genomics, biology, chemistry, clinic and personal health record, powered by advanced analytics tools to enable effective systems biology and translational medicine approaches. Adel is an early adaptor of web analytics technology leading to improved customer’s segmentation and targeted marketing that drove multi-channel marketing strategy for the Aging market and Wellness sector.

In 2009 Dr. Laoui was selected as one of the top 100 leaders that would drive the new Sanofi R&D, transforming the pharmaceutical disease management focus into a diversified healthcare company with a patient-centered and preventive population-based approach. He participated in the genesis of the entrepreneurial Aging business unit and led the US healthcare solutions group responsible for developing a portfolio of health solutions that bundle drugs, medical-functional food with delivery systems, smart devices and services.

Dr. Laoui graduated in 2011 with an executive MBA in advanced finance, digital marketing and business strategy. He expanded his skills towards quantitative firm’s valuation, merger & acquisition financing analysis, investment portfolio construction and asset allocation. He applied this knowledge to develop novel business models for complex integrated healthcare solutions.

Dr. Laoui has recently joined the European and American Chamber Of Commerce of New Jersey (EACCNJ) and is responsible for developing bilateral business relationships with the European Trade & Investment Officers and the US business entrepreneurs. Adel is also a proud mentor of two innovator startups (CareTree and LifeVestHealth) at TigerLabs, an accelerator for Health Technology Solutions in Princeton.

Adel is a fan of Soccer and still an active player in the adult competitive league in Princeton. Adel is blessed with a great family, a very active wife of 23 years and three kids, two adorable sons (soccer players too) and a beautiful daughter who participates in the Princeton Girl Choir, as well as speaking Mandarin at the age of fourteen years. My parents are originally from North Africa but lived for 30 years in the most beautiful city in the world: Paris, France. We also love the lights of New York City and the immense US country. We’re very grateful for our multi-cultural profile and enjoy spending quality time across the three continents of America, Europe and Africa.
